Sausage Bites

  • Author: Salsa De Leon
  • Prep Time: 20 min
  • Cook Time: 12 min
  • Total Time: 32 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy, your choice)
  • 1/2 cup salsa (your favorite variety)
  • 1 can (8 oz) crescent roll dough
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or cheddar for a sharper flavor)
  • Optional: Fresh cilantro or green onions for garnish
  • Salsa for dipping

Instructions

  • Cook the sausage: In a large skillet, cook the Italian sausage over medium heat until browned and crumbled. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  • Mix with salsa: Add the salsa to the cooked sausage and stir to combine. Let it simmer for a couple of minutes to heat through and let the flavors meld together. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Prepare the crescent roll dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough on a flat surface. Separate the dough into individual triangles (as per the package instructions).
  • Assemble the bites: Place a small spoonful of the sausage and salsa mixture at the wide end of each crescent roll triangle. Top with a sprinkle of shredded mozzarella cheese.
  • Roll and bake: Roll up the dough starting from the wide end, encasing the sausage and cheese mixture inside. Place the rolled bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake: Bake according to the crescent roll package instructions (typically 10-12 minutes) until golden and bubbly.
  • Serve: Serve the salsa & sausage bites warm with extra salsa for dipping. Optionally, garnish with fresh cilantro or green onions for added freshness.
